The Beginner CAD workshop provides a robust 5-session introduction to creating 3D models using Computer Aided Design. Workshop topics include professional drafting techniques, tools and methods to design and print a unique, detailed 3D model, providing an easy start for anyone looking to learn this diverse engineering skill set.
Participants use tools that designers and engineers work with every day, gaining hands-on experience with industry leader AutoDesk's Fusion360 software. At the completion of the workshop participants take home a 3D print of their intro and final project design.
- Understand capabilities and applications of CAD
- Utilize Autodesk’s Fusion360 interface
- Learn how to create precise designs
- Use sketch tools to create simple shapes
- Create 3D models with simple shapes using loft and extrusion tools
- Use annotation tools and shortcuts to quickly create accurate models
- Construct planes and surfaces for detailed modeling
- Alter colors and appearance of models for visually clear designs
- Sculpt organic shapes and combine with inorganic bodies
- Create high-quality renders of models for presentation
- Prepare models for 3D printing

Meet your InstructorElizabeth Adelaide
Elizabeth is an experienced robotics teacher and practitioner, teaching with Iridescent for four years, and has worked on projects including urban resilience efforts to ease access to solar power and emergency communications, CADing for integrated circuit design and product design, and developing autonomous robotics algorithms.
She believes in hands-on, processed based learning and developing the skills needed to approach new problems. She is also a poet who can be found giving readings in various parts of NYC.
